Anyone out there use a moldboard plow on the B series Kubota? Just put a deposit on a new B2100 HST and it should be delivered in about 5 days. I have about 2 acres of old hay field that I want to put into grass. The field is very rocky with very large rocks so I thought I should maybe plow it first then rent a roto-tiller to finish it and then use a rock rake. Don't know what size plow and dealer never sold a single bottom plow for a B2100. The tractor is coming wiht turf tires will it pull a 16 inch plow? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm so glad you've asked this question. I've wonder the same thing, yet decided against putting the question to the board for fear of getting flamed.I'm new to tractoring. In fact, I don't even own one yet. I will definitely buy one next summer/fall to take care of my newly purchased 10 acres. This board has been great in helping make my decision. I'm looking at the Kubota B2710/L3010 -and- New Holland TC25/TC33. I'd like to plow under portions of the field grass, think weeds, and uneven terrain and plant lawn type grass seed. Question is how much tractor do I need? And, if 32-33 hp is not enough for pulling a 1, maybe, 2 bottom plow, then I'll have to hire it out. Then my decision is easy, go 25-27 hp. Sure the plowing/planting of a lawn maybe a one time thing, but what if I what to put in a 1/2 acre garden. Then I would need to plow that under every year. Then the hp would come in handy. Again the question...will a 32-33 hp machine pull a 1 or 2 bottom plow. If so, then that begs the question...What might be the limit on the the number of bottoms you can pull with a compact...3 maybe 4?Any help on the plowing capabilities of compacts would be great! Thanks,Dave ....

Sorry I can't answer your question (I've no experience with plows yet). Can you tell me what a rock rake is? Is there a web site with pictures and a description? Thanks in advance, and best of luck with the moldboard. ....

compacts with about 40 pto hp are usually rated for two 14 inch moldboard plows.you can sort of figure from there. my 4310 fwd pulls that okay. to some degree weight lithere is a weight limitation. good luckalso it takes a full size 50 hp tractor to pull three 16's with authority. ....

While I am not familiar with the b2100 I do know that you can pull a single bottom plow with that type of hp. one other thing. If you are in a semi rural area and there are farmers near, you could hire your acrage done by one of them for a whole lot less effort and money than you think. These type also do a better job. Also have the guy disk the land when done plowing and it is a lot easier to work. Take my word for this if you don't do the plowing right and the get the area leveled right you will pay for it for years when mowing a lumpy, bumpy yard. i would recommend against rototilling unless you will leave it to settle for a few rains and then till it again to sit again. I have planted many areas like yours (including numerous sports fields) and you will be much happier if you see to it that you have a well graded area and there are a lot of guys that will botch the job. The details of the fine grading are the what make a large lawn easier to mow. Because of the size of the area you will want to go faster but if it is really bumpy you have to limit your speed. A little cost up front will pay for itself in the long run.Hope I helped. ....
